  • Job Responsibilities:

    Responsible for coordination of all transfers, utilizing Children's Mercy Critical Care Transport team.  The CMCCT utilizes ground, rotor wing and fixed wing modes of transport. The Communication Specialist utilizes phone, radio, pager and GPS tracking software for communication of the transport vehicles and crews. The Communication Specialist is responsible for dispatch, ground and air transport following, and scheduling of transports, including, but not limited to: emergent incoming requests, lateral requests, scheduled non-emergent requests, and contract transport requests.  The Communication Specialist is also responsible for direct admission physician support and consult requests from referring and/or outlying physicians. The Communication Specialist coordinates all communication between physicians, crews and specialists as the situation demands through conference calls and situation analysis. The Communication Specialist will have excellent communication and organizational skills and will work as a team member, supporting a teamwork philosophy. The Communication Specialist must have a thorough knowledge of operation and maintenance of dispatch center equipment and software. The Communication Specialist will have detailed time management skills, excellent public relations skills, and the ability to improvise with each changing request and emergent condition.

    Job Requirements:

    • High School diploma or equivalent
      • Associates Degree preferred
    • 1-2 year experience in the EMT or related field
      • EMT licensure or higher with the equivalent in knowledge which minimally includes:
        • Medical terminology
        • Knowledge of EMS (roles and responsibilities of various levels of training)
        • Knowledge of state and local regulations regarding EMS
        • Familiarization with equipment used in the field
        • Good communication skills or customer service experience
    • Current professional EMT state license OR current professional Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) license OR Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN)
    • BLS required
    • Air Medical Safety preferred
    • CFC (Certified Flight Communicator) per NAACS preferred
    • Minimum typing speed: 40 wpm
