Director, Medical/Surgical Nursing
Department: Nursing Administration
Shift: 80 Hrs/pp 8:30am-5pm Day shift
Job Details: - Masters degree is required
- CPR Required
- Licensure Required
- 10 years progressive management experience required
- Ability to pass medication assessment test
- Previous Meditech experience preferred
- Specialty experience may be required

 

SUMMARY:

The Director is responsible and accountable to the Sr. Vice President for Patient Care for overall operation of units under his/her direction.  Directs a group of nurse managers, clinical program managers and other management staff. Ensures the development, implementation and evaluation of policies, programs and services that are evidenced based and consistent with professional standards and values.  Accountable for measurement, assessment and improvement in nurse-sensitive patient and organizational outcomes, as well as the support of a professional nursing practice environment in which nurse are empowered to provide efficient, effective, safe and compassionate quality care. Is accountable to ensure the competence of nursing staff in their area and support ongoing professional growth and development.  Collaborates in the organization wide healthcare delivery system and works collaboratively with other department heads and physicians to assure compliance with professional and regulatory standards of care and practice.  Is accountable for employee selection/termination, performance reviews, salary decisions and budget development and compliance.

 

REQUIREMENTS:

Graduate of an accredited program of professional nursing.  Current licensure as a registered nurse or licensure in a compact state that allows practice in the State of Maryland.  Master's degree in nursing, management or related field required.  National certification in Nursing Management or applicable clinical specialty preferred.  Experience with performance improvement outcomes management and service excellence methods.  Knowledge of current health care environment.  At least ten (10) years progressive nursing management experience with demonstrated leadership ability required.  Strong working knowledge of nursing standards, Joint Commission standards, performance improvement methodology, financial management, models of care and professional practice.  Must maintain current CPR certification.
