  • Under the direction of the Nurse Manager, utilizing the nursing process, the Professional Nurse facilitates patient care by making Nursing assessments and diagnoses, formulating care plans based on those diagnoses and implementing and evaluating the plans of care. The nurse demonstrates knowledge and support of hospital and nursing standards.

     

    The Professional Nurse provides instruction, guidance and/or assistance to other team members including Licensed Practical Nurses (L.P.N.s), or Nursing Assistants (N.A.s), Technicians and A.C.C. Clerks. The Professional Nurse demonstrates competence to plan, initiate and evaluate care for patients in accordance with skills list.

     

    Educational Requirements:

    1.      Attends programs that are required by regulatory and/or accreditation agencies as follows:

            -  Environment of Care                

                Drug Free Workplace                           Risk Management

                Hazardous Materials                             Safe Medical Device Act

                Fire Safety                                            Security

                Utilities Safety                           AIDS

               

    2.      Graduate from an accredited school of nursing.

    3.      Current license to practice professional nursing in state of Florida.

    4.      Receives 12 contact hours within one year period, to include 6 in area of specialty and four in leadership.  Progress will be reviewed annually during the performance.

    5.      Completion of BLS Course Health Care Provider.

    6.      Basic computer skills, including ability to use computer and mouse.

    Special Requirements:

    1.      Must be mentally alert and able to devote full attention to duties.

    2.      Communication and cooperation required with patients, family, visitors, physicians and other hospital departments.

    3.      Discretion is necessary in handling of confidential information.

    4.      Must be active in instituting cost savings and make efforts to cut waste.

    5.      Must have current CPR Certification, current driver’s license and be willing to obtain TEAM certification and basic water safety course.

     

    Other Physical Requirements:

    1.      Must have good manual hand and arm dexterity.

    2.      Must demonstrate visual and aural acuity to adequately assess patients and surroundings.

    3.      Must be able to communicate effectively with patients, staff and others.

    4.      Must be able to apply Therapeutic Effective Aggression Management (TEAM) Techniques without limitations.
