VCU Health System's Cytogenetics is seeking a full time Pathology Specialist. The Pathology Specialist provides accurate and timely testing and results to requesting physicians and other health care professionals for use in the diagnosis and treatment of disease. The Pathology Specialist should consistently utilize excellent customer service skills to both internal and external customers at all times. A positive and professional interpersonal style with a strong commitment to the team effort is mandatory.
Performance of procedures, evaluation and reporting of results as outlined in the manual of standard operating procedures.
Notification of panic values to ordering physicians as required.
Customer service oriented communications.
Participate in teaching new employees, students, residents, etc. in areas that competency is demonstrated.
Must complete required continuing education hours annually
Rotating weekends as required.
Holiday scheduling as required.
On call availability, as required and for emergency coverage on any shift.
Minimum of a Bachelors of Science Degree in a Life Science from an accredited program*
Clinical Laboratory Specialist in Cytogenetics (CLSp(CG)) certification within three (3) years of employment in position
Minimum of one (1) year of clinical laboratory experience utilizing laboratory principles, procedures and technical skills
*unless candidate possesses a Ph.D. in a related field, or is a foreign trained MD
Masters of Science Degree in Life Science from an accredited program
Certified by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or the National Credentialing Agency (NCA) or equivalent categorical certification
