VCU Health System-Children's Hospital of Richmond at VCU, Brook Road Campus - Main Hospital Therapy Center is seeking a PRN (hourly) Speech Therapist. The Speech Pathologist is a novice to an advanced beginner level of practice, particularly as it relates to a hospital based setting. They are able to perform assessments and therapeutic interventions with the routine patient population. They support team endeavors by performing department and/or team tasks, problem solving and intervention skills. The Speech Pathologist may orient other allied health professionals to their field upon the successful completion of their CFY year with the approval of the Department Manager. They may also provide student experiences per approval of the Coordinator of Student Supervision.
Performs the following for patients with mild to moderately complex communications and/or swallowing disorders: schedule frequency and intensity of therapy; select assessment instruments and administer assessment; interpret results; complete documentation; plan and carry out treatment strategies; develop long- and short-term goals; perform patient/family/staff education; report at patient/family/team conferences; and terminate therapy when appropriate.
Supervisor and SLPII may provide advice/guidance/training regarding clinical skills, professional practice, ethical behaviors, billing, caseload management, educational opportunities, documentation and patient care for patient issues or when requested by staff.
SLPs with their CCC may provide student supervision if deemed competent to do so by Department Manager or Coordinator of Student Interns.
Master's Degree from an ASHA accredited program in Speech and Language Pathology
License (or licensure eligible) from the Commonwealth of Virginia as a Speech and Language Pathologist
Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC) in SLP from American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA)
Previous clinical experience with evaluation/ treatment of neurogenic, motor speech, linguistic/cognitive communication disorders and swallowing disorders
Previous experience performing swallow studies including MBS and bedside assessments
Previous experience planning and executing treatment
Completes required learning exchange courses
Previous experience with trach management as related to swallowing and communication disorders
Previous experience managing complex swallowing and/or communication, linguistic/cognitive disorders
Previous work experience in a critical care setting
Previous experience with computer-based documentation systems
Clinical rotations during graduate training in medical setting
Experience with Pediatric population
