VCU Health System's Respiratory Care Services is seeking a full time Respiratory Therapist 3 to provide safe and effective respiratory care as an advanced practitioner for adolescent, adult and geriatric patients. To serve as acting supervisor (team leader) for the adult critical care areas in the absence of a shift supervisor. To act as a clinical educator to students and staff and mentor less experienced staff.
Non-ordered ventilator parameters, i.e., peak flow, flow trajectory.
Suctioning patients as required; selection of appropriate ventilators for patients; consulting with physicians and nurses regarding the appropriateness of the patient care plan; modifying staff assignments and / or call-in additional staff when appropriate while an acting supervisor; and maintaining work areas in a clean and well stocked manner.
Develops and implements training techniques to meet individual needs while training and mentoring new and/or less experienced staff.
Identifies workload changes that impact staffing needs and making schedule changes with Respiratory Care Administrator on-call consultation.
Identifies additional equipment needs and renting equipment as needed with Respiratory Care Administrator on-call consultation.
Every other weekend and shift rotation on occasion.
Graduate from an accredited Advanced Practitioner Respiratory Care Program.
Licensed by the Commonwealth of Virginia as a Respiratory Therapist.
Current registry from the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) as a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT).
Current CPR certification as required by practice setting.
Current NRP certification as required by practice setting.
Minimum (2) years' work experience as a Respiratory Therapist.
Bachelor's Degree in Respiratory Therapy from an accredited program.
Current related credentials from the NBRC or National Asthma Educator Certification Board (NAECB).
Current ACLS and/or PALS preferred.
Three (3) years' work experience as a Respiratory Therapist.
Previous affiliation or work experience in a similar practice setting.
