VCU Health System's Peri-Operative Education is seeking a part time Surgical Tech Educator. The Surgical Tech Educator works in collaboration with the Nurse Manager of Education to ensure professional development that provides direction, education, leadership and accountability for program development, implementation and evaluation in area of responsibility. Includes professional development and empowerment of staff as well as management of resources to promote desired outcomes with attention to quality, efficiency and cost.
Surgical Technologists Educator is responsible for promoting best practice through staff development and education ensuring optimal patient outcomes therefore the ST Educator is expected to spend at least 10% of the time functioning as a Surgical Technician in designated area of specialty. Schedules, including requirements of shift rotations and hours of work may be adjusted as necessary to meet staffing requirements or in the best interests of the work unit.
Evaluates new employees and modifies their orientation program according to their needs.
Identifies staff education and training needs and schedules in-service training.
Prepares and presents special request lectures by way of computerized presentation packages to hospital health care workers.
Provides continuing educational opportunities and promoting STAR Values and customer services policies.
Provides indirect supervision to all ancillary staff as appropriate within the department.
Provides input into staff performance evaluations.
High School Diploma or equivalent
Graduate of a Surgical Technology Program or a military training program or Licensed Practical Nursing Program
Certified Surgical Technologist (CST); Tech in Surgery-Certified (TS-C); or Certified Operating Room and Surgical Technician (CORST) certification required. CST is the preferred certification.
Bachelors Degree in Health Administration or other related field from accredited program.
Current AHA, BLS, HCP Certification
Current CST; TS-C or CORST required
Minimum 3-5 years of experience as a Surgical Technologist with at least 2 years in a specific practice area
Previous experience in a Level I Trauma Center and/or academic medical center
