VCU Health System-Children's Hospital of Richmond(CHoR) at VCU, Brook Road Campus, Recreation Therapy is seeking a (full time/ part time/ hourly) Recreation Therapist. This role provides direct therapeutic recreation, leisure development, and community skill building to children and adolescents in Virginia Treatment Center for Children programs. Screens, plans and implements recreational services during scheduled times. Provides at least 65% direct care service to children and adolescents in assigned programs. Must possess knowledge of local, federal and state laws and regulations and JCAHO standards related to the position's chief objective and demonstrate aptitude for compliance with VCUHS policies, procedures, and customer service philosophy.
All practice is guided by VCUHS policies and procedures and established practice guidelines.
Demonstrates ability to use resources as needed in order to function independently.
Demonstrates independence in scheduling, evaluation and treating caseload.
Demonstrate independence in coordinating and communicating with Recreation Therapy staff for TR programming and supply upkeep.
May be responsible for supervising volunteers and recreational students
Flexibility in work hours as needed to accommodate community outing schedules, evening and weekend groups and special seasonal activities
Bachelor's Degree in Recreation Therapy, Early Childhood Education and/or Child Life
Current Child Life Specialist/Recreation Therapist Certification
CPR Certification may be required depending on area of practice
Current Virginia Driver`s License and on-going checks of driving record with no major infractions (only applies to RTs that drive the Rehab Van)
Relevant Child Life or Recreational Therapist internship and six months of experience in an acute care setting or as applicable to area of practice
Fieldwork in a similar specialty/practice area
Experience in a hospital setting and in a similar specialty/practice area
Previous experience with community reintegration
