VCU Health System's Hematology Lab is seeking a full time Med Tech Trainer. The Medical Technologist Trainer develops, administers, and supervises a complete Quality Compliance CAP Inspection Program for the Laboratory. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, oversight of process control, systems monitoring, document management, error management, regulatory updates and compliance with FDA, JCAHO and CAP mandates and checklists. Provides oversight of the Quality Program, including assessments, inspections and audits. Oversees change control processes, including control of SOPs. Provides oversight of quality management and reporting of deviations to FDA, QC activities, training, validation of processes and procedures. Serves as the Technical Specialist in Education. Develops, administers and supervises training/teaching new employees, students and residents in procedures, policies and principles pertinent to the area of technical specialty, offering guidance and assistance in a constructive and professional manner. Performs the duties of a technical specialist as a Medical Technologist Senior in the Laboratory for clinical testing (40%). Assists Supervisor/Manager in the coordination of workflow, quality control procedures, troubleshooting, maintenance of procedure manuals, training and documentation and inventory control. Consistently demonstrates excellent written and verbal communication skills. Demonstrates a strong and energetic commitment to the laboratory's mission of efficiency and quality. Consistently acts as a positive role model for peers and other coworkers.
Performance, evaluation and reporting of procedures outlined in the manual of standard operating procedures.
Notification of panic values to ordering physicians.

Resolution of problems in testing and quality control.
Maintenance of SOPs; may make and initial changes in SOPs as approved.
Training evaluations of trainees and maintenance of documentation of training.
Rotating weekends as required
Holiday scheduling as required
On call availability, approximating 3-4 weeks per year, for emergency coverage on any shift
Bachelor's Degree in Clinical Laboratory Science (BSCLS) from an accredited program* or a Bachelor's Degree in Biology or Chemistry* in addition to graduation from an NAACLS-accredited CLS/MT certificate program
MT (ASCP) or MLS (ASCP) or CLS (NCA) or equivalent ASCP categorical certification within 18 months of hire or promotion in to position
Minimum of three (3) years of clinical work experience as a Medical Technologist.
*Depending on the laboratory assignment, work experience requirement may be specific to a particular specialty area such as Microbiology, Immunology, Molecular Biology, Transfusion Medicine, Clinical Chemistry, Toxicology, etc.
Master's Degree in Clinical Lab Science (MSCLS) from an accredited program
