VCU Health System's Invasive Cardiology department is seeking a full time RCIS/RCES Cardiovascular Technologist. The Cardiology Invasive Technologist performs a wide range of technical skills which are utilized during cardiac and vascular procedures performed in the cardiac catheterization laboratory and the electrophysiology laboratory. The cardiovascular technologist is responsible for operating highly technical equipment and products under the direct supervision of a qualified licensed independent practitioner (LIP). The Technologist is proficient in all aspects of angiography, patient preparation, assessment, documentation and monitoring consistent with all policies, procedures and processes to ensure safe, efficient, and comfortable exams for all patients.
Demonstrates advanced knowledge of human anatomy and physiology, pathology and medical terminology with a concentration on cardiology.
Utilizes critical thinking skills to make sound decisions for patient care, efficiencies and all essential job duties.
Performs/Reviews baseline and ongoing patient assessments.
Evaluates patient response to diagnostic or interventional maneuvers.
Prepares patient for procedures and provides care pre, intra, and post procedure.
Ensures adherence to regulatory standards and enforces safety regulations.
Performs in the monitor and scrub roles during diagnostic and interventional catheterization and electrophysiology procedures.
Proficient in emergency situations and the use of all emergency equipment.
Demonstrates knowledge of all diagnostic and therapeutic equipment.
Operates under the direct supervision of a licensed independent practitioner.
Possesses and utilizes knowledge of radiation protection and safety.
Learns and advances skills throughout employment and through educational opportunities.
Uses knowledge to assist in the development, orientation, training, and education of new team members.
Participates in quality improvement activities, educational activities, unit in-services, staff meetings, team building and budget planning as requested.
Graduation from programmatically accredited program in invasive cardiovascular technology or electrophysiology or education, training and/or experience that satisfies the eligibility requirement for the Cardiovascular Credentialing International certification of RCIS or RCES
Current Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS) or Registered Cardiac Electrophysiology Specialist (RCES) certification by Cardiovascular Credentialing International or eligible to complete RCIS/RCES certification within 6 months from date of hire
Basic Life Support (BLS for Healthcare Providers)
Previous experience as required by Cardiovascular Credentialing International
One (1) year of previous invasive cardiology experience
PALS and ACLS certification
