VCU Health System's Pathology Administration department is seeking a full time Assoc Director Lab Operations to assist the Director of Lab Operations with the day-to-day operation of the Department to include strategic planning; legal and regulatory compliance; financial management; relationship development; and human resources management. Ensures compliance with VCU and VCUHS policies and procedures. Works with Pathology managers to resolve problems, workflow issues, and customer service issues and to implement new initiatives, policies, programs, etc. Reports directly to the Director of Lab Operations and is responsible for the clinical functions and processes of the Department. Ensures the highest level of operational excellence, safety, efficiency, quality and cost-effective care. Manages, oversees, maintains and improves business functions and processes related to his/her areas of responsibility. This position may act in place of the Director of Lab Operations in their absence. Also, manages the day-to-day operations of the Pathology Client Services section.
All day-to-day activities in areas of responsibility are handled independently.
Advice and guidance are sought from Director of Lab Operations on an as needed basisand when there is a major impact on activity within the Department.
Forward staff evaluations at the "Exceeds", "Exceptional", and "Does Not Meet" level to the Director of Lab Operations and Vice President for review/signature.
Four lab management positions and Pathology Client Services Call Center report directly to the Associate Director's position. Chain of command oversight of all direct reports' subordinates.
Frequent visibility on all shifts and weekends to enhance staff communication and monitor staff effectiveness.
Departmental Safety On Call every fourth week.
Bachelor's Degree in Clinical Lab Science (BSCLS) from an accredited program
Certified as a Medical Technologist or Medical Laboratory Scientist by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or CLS by the National Credentialing Agency or equivalent ASCP categorical certification
Minimum of seven (7) years of clinical work experience as a Medical Technologist
Minimum of five (5)years of supervisory/management positions
Master's Degree in Clinical Lab Science, Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, or closely related field preferred
Supervisory/management experience in an academic clinical laboratory
