VCU Health System's Dental Medicine Clinic is seeking a full time Dental Assistant to work in conjunction with the Clinic Director and Residents in providing good quality dental care in the Dental Medicine and Oral Surgery Outpatient Clinics. To assist and provide care to high risk and/or medically compromised patients undergoing procedures and to prepare for and clean up after the procedures.
Assisting residents/attending with surgical procedures and patient activities including discharge, transportation and the provision of comfort measures (i.e. supporting the anxious patient).
Assisting with surgical procedures during general anesthesia/IV sedation.
May transcribe attendings' documentation to the chart with 100% accurate. Taking and developing radiographs with fewer than 10% retakes.
Demonstrating competency in making and pouring preliminary impressions.
Performing Panorex, PA's, vital signs, blood pressure, temperatures, weights, pregnancy test as requested.
Preparing the clinic for each patient scheduled.
Demonstrating competency in chair-side assisting to include, but is not limited to anticipatory preparation and assisting according to the procedure being performed.
Preparing and breaking down (cleans) patient treatment and clinic areas to maintain a safe and uncluttered work environment.
Maintaining the unit's supply inventories.
High School Diploma or equivalent
Graduate of an on-site Dental Assistant Training or Dental Assistant Program
2 years of Dental Assistant experience that included:
Perform functions outlined in job description independently.
Use of dental terminology
use of dental equipment
Dental sterilization techniques
Setup and break down of dental sterilization areas and treatment rooms
Radiation Safety Course with certification of successful completion (preferred prior to hire)
Current Dental Assistant Certification
