Overview 

VCU Health System's Department of Radiology is seeking an evening shift supervisor to become to become a part of our Diagnostic Radiology leadership team.

Responsibilities 

Provide day-to-day supervision for an assigned Radiology area (e.g. Diagnostic, Breast Imaging, Stony Point, CT/MRI, 3D lab) to include STAR Service, legal and regulatory compliance, clinical operations, human resources, safety & quality, customer service, leadership, and fiscal responsibility.
Ensure that all diagnostic and therapeutic procedures are performed by qualified and competent staff, are of the highest quality achievable and follow the radiation safety principles of ALARA, ACR Guidelines for imaging practices, and ACR Guidelines for MRI Safety, if applicable.
Ensure compliance with VCU and VCUHS policies and procedures.
Work directly with lead technologists and front line staff to solve problems and reduce barriers to success.
Implement new initiatives, programs and policies.
Work collaboratively with other Radiology Supervisors, Mangers, Faculty and staff to ensure a high level departmental safety, quality, and teamwork.
Report to the Modality Manager and is responsible for the clinical functions and processes for assigned Radiology area.
Through lead technologists and staff, the Radiology Supervisor is responsible and accountable for the daily clinical operation of the assigned sections by ensuring the highest level of operational excellence while ensuring safety, efficient, high quality and cost effective care.
Supervise, oversee, maintain and improve business functions and processes related to his/her areas of responsibility.
Develop staff education and competencies including educational materials, competency forms, etc.
Provide education to the assigned team, students, residents, and other learners. Coordinating diagnostic exams and non-vascular invasive procedures with a focus on safety, quality, and service while improving efficiency and minimizing downtime; collaborating with radiologists, midlevel providers, technologists, nursing and non-radiology teams.
Improving patient throughput and streamlining the coordination of exams for patients needing radiology diagnostic and/or invasive procedures, including anesthesia or sedation.
Reviewing designated exam orders for completeness, medical necessity, and assists providers with appropriate selection of exam based on clinical diagnosis. Seeking clarification from Radiologists as needed.
Facilitating protocoling of exams with radiologists and completes required documentation.
Reduced interruptions to radiologists to address questions/concerns/communications that could be handled by non-radiologists. Improved report turnaround times due to improving efficiency of radiologists.
Reduced ED exam turnaround times. Reduced reschedules due to improperly scheduled patients.
Improve coordination with other radiology areas by working closely with other department supervisors to improve provider satisfaction with scheduling processes and service for procedures.
Work within the Scope of Practice of his/her specialty. Scope of Practice by specialty is described in the Staff Technologist job description for each specialty.
Maintain technical competency in all areas of responsibility.

 

Qualifications

 

Required

Graduation from a JRC Accredited Program in Radiologic Technology 
Bachelor's Degree in Clinical Radiation Science or closely related field from an accredited program.

Current Certification by the American Registry of Radiology Technologist (ARRT) is required.
Minimum of five (5) years of Diagnostic radiology experience

Preferred
Master's Degree in Health Administration, Business Administration or closely related field from an accredited program
Three (3) years progressively more responsible Diagnostic Radiology supervisory/management experience.
Previous work experience in an academic medical center environment
