VCUHealth System's Phlebotomy isseeking a (full time/ part time/ hourly) Phlebotomist.The Phlebotomist will obtain blood samples by venipuncture and capillarypuncture from outpatients in all age groups as requested by the physician. ThePhlebotomist assures the proper collection of all types of samples as requestedby the physicians. The Phlebotomist also prepares specimens for analysis byprocessing orders via HIS/LIS computers, verifying specimen acceptability andperforming established pre-analytical procedures in accordance with laboratorypolicy in an accurate, safe, and timely manner.
Collectionof blood samples from patients.
Ableto contact Client Services or other areas as needed if questions prior tocollection of samples.
Customerservice oriented communications.
Directthe operation of the assigned area according to policy and procedures.
Aidin the decision when a trainee has acquired sufficient phlebotomy skills towork without close supervision.
Assistwith special projects assignments.
Mayrequire weekend and/or holiday rotation on all shifts as patient care needs inhospital dictate.
High school diploma or equivalent
Certification as a Phlebotomist from ASCP or other recognized certification agency preferred
Valid driver's license and acceptable driver's record if required to drive betweensites
Completionof a phlebotomy, nursing assistant or medical assistant training program
Minimumof 2 years experience in specimen collection techniques (venipuncture,capillary collection, urine collection)
Oneyear of experience in laboratory clerical and computer entry functions
