Reporting to the Senior Vice President of Finance and CFO, the Director, Patient Finance directs the development and efficient administration of policies, budgets, systems, staff and operations to effectively manage all Tufts Medical Center's admitting and registration functions, patient accounts receivables, patient cash collections and maximizes reimbursement from third party sources. Other duties include, but not limited to, the following:
-Develops departmental policies and procedures and effective internal controls that assure timely and accurate patient admitting and registration data collection, charge input, accounts receivable management and cash collections. -Manage and reduce payor billing denials and support customer service for patients and colleagues. -Directs the Admitting, Outpatient Registration and pre-Registration functions, in the assurance of accurate, timely and comprehensive data collection from patients, families, referring physicians and payors to support billing. -Oversees the bed management function for the Medical Center's patients, through the management of policies, operations, budgets, information systems and process improvements. -Ensures all inpatient and outpatient denials are investigated, relevant data is collected and corrected and cases are challenged, in a timely manner. -Ensures that actual collection time span is consistent with established accounts receivable days and cash collection goals. -Ensures that quality and performance standards are met and third party payer and governmental agency billing and documentation requirements are compliantly adhered to. -Perform other similar and related duties as required or directed.
Requires the ability to effectively manage a large patient registration and finance operation in a large health care system, and expert knowledge of third party payer requirements, government regulations (Medicare, Medicaid, etc.) and billing requirements. Excellent planning, management, and communication skills, capable of presenting ideas in a clear and compelling manner. Prior successful demonstrated ability to manage and motivate a large, diverse staff of non-exempt and exempt employees. Minimum of 8-10 years progressive related health care/patient finance experience with at least 4 years in a management capacity. Bachelor's Degree in accounting, finance or a related field; MBA preferred. TN CB
