High School/GED from Nationally Accredited College/Universit
Allegan General Hospital seeks a part time Sterile Processing Tech to work in our Sterile Processing Department.
JOB DUTIES INCLUDE, but are not limited to:
-Participate in teaching other health care providers the proper care & handling of instruments & equipment (contaminated & sterile).
-Practice safe handling of supplies and equipment for protection of employees and patients.
-Maintain a clean environment in the Sterile Processing Department.
-Follow specific sterilization process requirements:
*Safely & correctly wash (manually and/or mechanically), inspect, sort, and reassemble trays for re-sterilization.
*Correctly use the ultrasonic cleaner.
*Assure item is disassembled correctly for sterilization.
*Correctly wrap/pouch items for sterilization.
*Correctly label items for use.
*Position item correctly for sterilization.
*Cool item correctly for storage.
*Store/distribute items correctly.
*Recognize a compromised sterile package.
-Safe and effective testing and operation of the Pre-Vacuum/Gravity Steam Autoclave and the High Level Disinfector Endoscope Reprocessing System
-Proper handling of sterile instrument packages & trays as well as their proper locations for daily replacement of used stock returned from Sterile Processing.
-Daily ordering and disposition of storeroom items to meet pre-established par levels.
-Daily processing and disposition of pharmacy supply order.
-Maintenance of adequate supply of fluids and blankets within the warming unit.
-Assist with restocking of supplies in OR's, PACU, anesthesia carts, soiled utility, Short Stay and other areas within Perioperative Services.
-Clean and restock utility area on Short Stay daily.
-Fold and store linen.
-Order storeroom supplies as needed.
-Monitor Sterile Processing Department temperature and humidity, reporting any abnormality.
-Clean sterilizers and sterilizer carts as scheduled.
-Carry out recall of supplies in event of positive biological test.
QUALIFICATIONS INCLUDE, but are not limited to:
-High School Diploma or GED
-Sterile Processing Certification at hire strongly preferred, or, complete Sterile Processing Education Program and obtain Sterile Processing Certification within 12 months of hire required
-Continuous maintenance of Sterile Processing Certification afterwards required
-BLS certification required
-Ability and willingness to attend educational seminars outside of the facility required
-Demonstrated knowledge of proper body mechanics.
-Demonstrated knowledge of how to protect self from hazardous materials and unsafe conditions.
-Demonstrated effective organizational/priority setting skills.
-Ability to access information systems; computer, fax, copier, multi-line telephones.
-Effective organizational/priority setting skills.
-Ability to function autonomously and in a team setting with collaboration and cooperation.
-Effective interpersonal skills.
