Behavorial Health Technician
Department: Nursing - Psychiatry
Schedule: Full Time, Part Time, or Help Out Hours
Shift: Day/Evening/Night/Weekends/Holidays
Job Details:

Works under the direction of the Clinical Coordinator.  The Mental Health Technician assists psychiatry team in the delivery of individual and group patient care, according to unit policies and procedures.  All the criteria-based duties and standards within this document will be performed according to the policies, procedures and guidelines of the Medical Center.

Education: Bachelors degree in psychology or related sciences preferred: must meet minimum requirement of associate degree in psychology or related sciences.

Licensure: Must be listed on Nurse Assistant Registry operated by the North Dakota Board of Nursing, State Department of Consolidated Laboratories by the North Dakota Board of nursing.  If not on a registry, then must obtain placement on one immediately following orientation and training by St. Alexius Medical Center as stated in the policy “Eligibility for Employment as Nurse Assistant”.

Experience: Preferred experience in related field.

Skills: Able to organize assignments and work under pressure.

Interpersonal Skills: Good communication skills are necessary because of the constant communication, both oral and written, with patients, families, visitors, and medical center staff. Accountable for own conduct and promotes and supports positive working relationships among staff, between other disciplines, departments, families, visitors and patients.  Maintains confidentiality

Physical Effort: Medium: Sometimes involves a maximum physical effort requirement of 50 lbs

Hours of Work: Rotating shift work or straight evenings.  Rotating weekends will be required

Exemption Status: Non-Exempt/Exempt

Other: Works under the following conditions: potential exposure to mechanical, chemical, electrical and infectious environmental hazards
