 RN Nurse Triage  Position Overview

The Triage Nurse for Asante provides telephonic triage services.  The Triage Nurse will be the primary point of contact as patients call in with a variety of health or illness questions.  Additionally, the nursing staff will be a resource for the agents located within the contact center. Nurses working in telephone triage use their nursing assessment skills to a high degree and this role requires excellent communication, assessment, listening, and critical-thinking skills.  Through the telephone triage program, the Triage Nurse will work to provide safe and timely delivery of care, or access to care, for our patient population.  The triage nursing role will use nursing assessment, intervention and referral as primary therapeutic interactions.  The key function of the Triage Nurse will be to create a healing relationship through active listening, maximizing patients' control, and providing comfort and connection through voice.


As a Triage Nurse at Asante you will have the opportunity to: 

·        Identify and resolve problems within your scope of practice

·        Respond to complex triage calls and provide guidance for patients with acute conditions to include providing clinical advice and recommending disposition based on protocol

·        Work with patients and healthcare teams to ensure access to the right care and the right time

·        Participate in education and Performance Improvement activities to provide a quality service and keep current with industry changes



·         Associate's degree in Nursing required

·         Bachelor's in Nursing, preferred

·         Crisis Intervention training, preferred


·          5 years of clinical experience required

·          Emergency department triage experience, preferred


·        Registered Nurse (RN) licensed by the Oregon State Board of Nursing (OSBN) is required upon start

·        Basic Life Support for the Healthcare Provider (BLS) certified by the American Heart Association (AHA) also required upon start

Required Skills

·        Proven typing skills at 30 words per minute

·        Ability to problem solve, interpret, and deal with variables in an efficient, logical manner

·        Excellent listening skills

·        Ability to effectively communicate in a compassionate and caring manner with patients

·        Concise, clear documentation skills

·        Ability to work well independently
