RN The Staff Development Position Overview

The Staff Development Specialist designs, organizes, implements, and evaluates educational programs, orientations, continuing education, and in-services that facilitate the professional growth, skill development, competency, and attainment of standards of care for direct care providers within Patient Care Services.


This staff development specialist position will support initial and ongoing training/competency assessment for our Certified Nursing Assistants and Clinical Support Services personnel at AACH, ARRMC, and ATRMC. The primary job location will be at ARRMC, but travel to both AACH and ATRMC will be required. Nursing Professional Development is looking for an organized, personable, dynamic facilitator and change agent looking to professionally develop and mentor our support staff across the system.




·         BSN preferred.  

·         Master's degree in a nursing, allied health profession, or applicable field preferred  


·         Registered Nurse (RN) licensed by Oregon State Board of Nursing.  Will consider candidates with RN licensure from out of state – but Oregon license required by start date 

·         Basic Life Support for the Healthcare Provider (BLS) certified through the American Heart Association (AHA)

·         Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certified from American Heart Association (AHA) preferred

·         ANCC Nursing Professional Development Specialty Certification preferred


·         Practice equivalent of 3 years current experience as a full-time RN in an acute care setting

·         Established expertise in clinical specialty (minimum of 5 years of RN clinical experience)

·         Specialty certification preferred  

·         Demonstrated ability in teaching/learning principles as well as educational concepts and processes also required. 

·         Demonstrated ability to assess current knowledge base of learners and to apply appropriate teaching/learning approach and to independently organize and follow-through with educational programs/projects required

·         Clear verbal and written communication skills required

·         Basic computer skills required

·         Ability to work in a team setting with cooperation, flexibility, motivation, and enthusiasm required

·         Ability to reinforce and motivate desired learner behavior required

·         Experience in nursing leadership, performance improvement, clinical outcomes, professional development preferred
