The Lab Assistant / Specimen Processor receives and processes laboratory specimens. Also assesses requisition date, specimen adequacy and acceptability to ensure accurate order entry and high quality laboratory results.
Education: High school diploma or equivalent is required. Prior education or demonstrated knowledge in medical terminology also required. College courses/credits toward advanced degree, especially science course work is preferred.
Experience: 1 year laboratory experience or related experience in healthcare setting is required. Preferred experience includes specimen processing including esoteric reference lab specimen handling and packaging; phlebotomy; knowledge of laboratory tests and /or laboratory ordering processes; demonstrated proficiency with computers; data entry and keyboarding experience.
Other required qualifications for this position include good organizational skills that ensure accurate processing under adverse conditions; the ability to be detail oriented and to multi-task while maintaining a calm and effectual demeanor; excellent interpersonal and communication skills; the ability to encourage teamwork through cooperative interactions with co-workers and other departments; and the ability to adapt to new processes.
