Responsible to provide high quality health care according to the resident's needs and in conformance with recognized nursing techniques and procedures and administrative policies.
Graduation from an accredited school of nursing and a license to practice in the State of South Dakota. Certified in Basic Life Support.
Practices as a charge nurse and organizes total nursing care when in charge.
Makes nursing assessments regarding the health status of the resident and is knowledgeable of the resident's condition at all times and reports pertinent changes to family, physician and Director of Nursing.
Documents in the medical record information that reflects any change in the conditon or behavior of the resident.
Demonstrates skills in nursing functions such as catherization, sterile irrigation, giving oral and parenteral medication (intramuscular and subcutaneous injections) and othe functions that are with the basic scope of practice.
Effectively uses appropriate communication principles with residents, families and other health care professionals. Uses appropriate designated communication channels to identify and discuss resident or staff problems, issues, and concerns.
Orders medication from the pharmacy according to facility procedure. Documens and reports all variances which include medication errors.
Knows and follows established procedures for infection control, safety and fire/disaster evacuation plans, and has read these manuals in addition to the personnel policy manual.
Ensures safe therapeutic environment by seeing that all equipment used is in correct functioning order and/or by identifying the need for repair, replacement or evaluation of faulty equipment by the appropriate personnel.
Performs other duties as assigned.
