Cath Lab Duties: 

The Catheterization Lab Nurse is an individual who is experienced in diagnostic and invasive cardiovascular and peripheral vascular technologies, techniques, and nursing care, with the knowledge of cardiovascular nursing practices, cardiovascular anatomy, and physiology on adult aged patients. The individual performs all cardiovascular and/or peripheral vascular procedures at a technical and professional level requiring minimal supervision of technical detail. The Catheterization Lab Nurse performs a variety of technical procedures on both inpatient and outpatients that require responsible independent judgment. The individual will assume responsibility and initiative for designated areas and procedures as required. The Catheterization Lab Nurse will assist with the development and maintenance of the CQI program. The individual will attain a minimum of 12 professional development points per year. The individual will also recognize that the purpose of their employment is to prioritize the patient as number one, achieve the highest level of customer satisfaction, and to give the utmost quality as a catheterization Lab Nurse.  The Catheterization Lab Nurse is responsible to adhering to, and following all Cardiovascular/Angiography Laboratory and Avera St. Luke's policy and procedures, and the guidelines of other pertinent regulating agencies.

Education, License, and Certification:

The individual must be a graduate of an accredited school of Nursing. CPR is required along with ACLS.  Must hold a current license in the State South Dakota.  Two years minimum experience in nursing. Prefer two years of clinical care nursing, one year critical care nursing. Must be familiar with the anatomy and physiology of the cardiovascular system, comprehension of the ECG and the hemodynamic system is required.

 

Radiology Duties:

·         Perform Radiology Nursing Services during the performance of biopsies, aspirations, chest tube placements and other special invasive procedures performed throughout the radiology diagnostic department.

·         Schedule, enter orders, perform pre and post care, and coordinate interventional radiology procedures according to radiologist request.

·         Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development and possesses the ability to respond to specific issues and data reflective of the patient/customer's status.  Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care for the population served in the department.

·         ACLS Certification required.
