Coordinator, Education & Training

Plans, organizes, directs and evaluates a program of orientation for professional and non-professional personnel.  Complies with Federal, State and facility requirements for continuing education of personnel.



1.         Plans and coordinates new employee orientation programs and ensure nurse assistant competency.  Orientation shall include, but not limited to:

a.            Tour of facility

b.            Introduction to coworkers and supervisors

c.            Explanation of personnel policies

d.            Description of duties

e.            Process necessary for employment documents (i.e., TB skin test or send staff for    chest x-ray, etc.).

2.         Plans, organizes, direct and evaluate training for nursing personnel.

3.         Meets Federal, State and facility requirements for continuing education for professional and non-professional employees.

4.         Maintains accurate records of orientation and in-service classes:

a.            Attendance and dates

b.            Topics covered

c.            Evaluation

d.            Down load in-service in computer

5.         Conducts periodic clinical evaluation of nursing personnel and plan and conduct in-services according to observed needs.

6.         Evaluates and develops nursing procedures as necessary.

7.         Maintains records of CNA certification and nursing licenses.

8.         Participates in Quality Assurance program.

9.         Continues professional growth through current literature and through The Education Associate for Continuing Health (T.E.A.C.H.).

10.      Maintains open line of communication with Director of Nursing.

11.      On call for weekends as scheduled.

12.      Exhibits excellent customer service skills and behaviors toward internal and external customer customers and co-workers.

13.      Adheres to department customer service and performance standards.

14.      Demonstrates personal commitment to the Organization's core values through active involvement in the performance improvement process.

15.      Demonstrates safe work practices and attitudes, follows safety rules, works to prevent unsafe conditions and behaviors, and participates in organizational and departmental safety programs.


A.              Minimum Education:  Graduate of an accredited school of nursing (ASN, BSN).

B.              Minimum Work Experience:  Three to five years' experience as a nurse and ability to demonstrate an understanding of the nursing process.  Must have current nursing skills with some supervisory experience.

C.              Contacts with Others:  Demonstrate effective verbal and written communication skills and the ability to interact effectively with co-workers.

D.              Analytical Demands: Requires the ability to gather data, assess training needs through observation and suggestions from others and to develop training programs based on this assessment.  Must be able to evaluate the results of training as well as the performance of others.

E.               Certification, Licensure, Registration: Current valid Michigan nursing license.
