Inspired by the Gospel mandates to love, serve and teach, Catholic Charities provides care and services to improve the lives of Marylanders in need. We are currently seeking an on-call Nurse at Gallagher Services, a program serving individuals with developmental disabilities. The On-Call nurse will coordinate and monitor the delivery of medical care to persons in the Medical Day Program. The on-call nurse also provides nursing care to persons in the other Gallagher Day Programs on a case-by-case basis.
Duties include providing/supervising nursing care during programming hours (M-F, 8:00 - 3:30 p.m.). The nurse will be expected to advocate for the well-being of participants, observe participants' conditions, administer medication and help to prevent and de-escalate crisis situations. Responsible for compiling medical charts with the Medical Clerk, reviews doctor's orders, lab work and related material daily and maintains all notes and records in accordance with program and regulatory guidelines. Provides staff training on any work-related medical issues. Coordinates services and communicates with other Gallagher nurses, outside agencies, doctor's offices and families.
Requires completion of an accredited nursing program and current license as an RN in the state of Maryland. Candidates must have at least 3 years experience in a health care setting. Current CPR and First Aid certification and the ability to perform CPR are required.
Must be able to lift participants (using body mechanics and assistance when required). Must be able to help evacuate building and keep participants safe. Must be able to work safely with infectious diseases. Must be flexible and work well with multi-disciplinary groups. Must have knowledge of medical terminology, psychiatric medication, and development among people with intellectual and other disabilities.
