 SCH Infection Prevention

  Monday-Friday; 8a-5p

The Infection Preventionist is a registered nurse or medical technologist who performs data collection activities and advises staff regarding precautionary and preventive measures and other infection prevention functions.

  • Documents all aspects of nosocomial infections on infection worksheets.
  • Actively participates in Infection Prevention meetings.
  • Educates patients families and staff regarding infection prevention/infectious disease issues.
  • Is responsible and accountable for maintaining knowledge in Infection Prevention and is aware of practice changes/recommendations.
  • Assesses and accurately records nosocomial infections.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to identify nosocomial infections.

Educational Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing or holds a degree in Microbiology

Certification/Licensure Requirements

  • Current Virginia nursing license (for RNs) is required if don't hold a bachelor's degree in Medical Technology, Biology, or Microbiology.
    Infection Prevention Certification as eligible.
