Financial Counselor
The Financial Counselor is responsible for protections the financial standing of the health system by
interviewing patients and/or responsible parties to perform financial assessments, arrange payment
pathways, including credit plans and obtaining promissory notes from patients without adequate
insurance coverage. Screen and approve applications for charity, grant, disability and Medicaid
presumptive eligibility. Collect funds for copayment, coinsurance and deductibles. Administer and
understand governmental guidelines for COBRA, Medicare, Medicaid and other available
governmental programs.
Educational Requirements
High School Diploma or equivalent is required. Bachelor's degree in Finance, Business or Healthcare Administration is preferred.
Experience Requirements
Two years experience in a patient financial services, or patient access occupation
Previous experience with patient financial billing, registration or other healthcare financial services
Certification/Licensure Requirements
Ability to obtain necessary governmental certifications (Certified Application Counselor) within 60 days of employment
