 LAC Infection Prevention

  Part-time (24-35 hours) · Days 8a - 4:30p

  Monday-Friday; 7:45am-4:15pm

  Lynchburg General Hospital

  • The Infection Preventionist is a registered nurse or medical technologist who performs data collection activities and advises staff regarding precautionary and preventive measures and other infection prevention functions.

    • Documents all aspects of nosocomial infections on infection worksheets.
    • Actively participates in Infection Prevention meetings.
    • Educates patients families and staff regarding infection prevention/infectious disease issues.
    • Is responsible and accountable for maintaining knowledge in Infection Prevention and is aware of practice changes/recommendations.
    • Assesses and accurately records nosocomial infections.
    • Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to identify nosocomial infections.

    Educational Requirements

    • Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing or holds a degree in Microbiology

    Experience Requirements:

    • Experience in Infection Prevention preferred
      Background in Patient Safety preferred

    Certification/Licensure Requirements

    • Current Virginia nursing license (for RNs) is required
    • Prefer Certification in Infection Prevention and Control
