Job Details:

    The Cardiology Technician III is responsible for performing cardiac diagnostic testing and other related examinations for patients as directed according to established standards and practices. The Cardiology Technician III applies knowledge in echocardiography to evaluate a patient's problem, distinguishing between a normal and abnormal study.



    The duties and responsibilities described below represent the general tasks performed on a daily basis; other tasks maybe assigned.


    ·        Demonstrates competency in assessing, treating, and /or providing care for patients of all ages

    ·        Prepares patients for testing, explains the procedure and assures patient cooperation during testing

    ·        Performs 2-dimensional, M-mode, Transesophageal Echocardiography, and Doppler procedures

    ·        Measures all heart chamber sizes, including wall thickness and valve openings

    ·        Recognizes abnormalities during testing, focusing on areas of specific concern

    ·        Utilizes the Doppler probe (pulsed and continuous wave) to gather diagnostic information, as well as calculate valvular gradients, valve orifices, and pressure halftimes

    ·        Maintains established department policies, procedures, and objectives regarding quality assurance, safety, and environmental and infection control

    ·        Must comply with the department's daily throughput metric

    ·        Assists with the care and maintenance of department equipment and supplies; maintains stock levels of supplies and materials, documents maintenance, and calls for maintenance when needed

    ·        Assists with Holter / Event placement, scanning and/or other clerical duties

    ·        Conducts in-services and meetings as directed

    ·        Attends required hospital-wide orientations, meetings, and in-services

    ·        Demonstrates a commitment to flexible work scheduling when necessary to ensure patient care



    Minimum Required Education: High school diploma, or equivalent; successful completion of a Cardiovascular Technology (CVT) program and successful completion of an AMA accredited ultrasound program


    Experience: One or more years in non-invasive cardiology and 2+ years in cardiac ultrasound


    Applicant must be certified to work as a CVT in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
