Externs will be chosen and placed in various areas of Dayton Children's including: Surgery, NICU, PICU, IMCU, Float Nursing, 3E, 3W, ED, H/O and AHU.The Nurse Extern collaborates with the Administrative Manager and Staff Nurse to assist in direct patient care activities as assigned and to meet unit needs. Responsible for multiple care tasks under the supervision of a registered nurse. Communicates daily with internal and external customers. Recognizes that each patient/family unit is an individual with unique needs; provides considerate, respectful care to the patient/family unit. The role of the Nurse Extern is to assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient/family needs and patient care needs for patients aged neonate and pediatric, adolescent and adult population under the direction and guidance of an RN. The Nurse Extern, under direct supervision, provides health educational needs for patients, families and other health care providers, manages patient care assignments, acts in a clinical leadership role, demonstrates professional development/clinical competency; applies knowledge of growth and development in patient interactions, performs other relate duties. As a Nurse Extern, job responsibilities and performance expectations are intended to reflect the major responsibilities of the job but is not intended to describe minor duties or other responsibilities as may be assigned from time to time. These duties shall vary as to the clinical area but shall not exceed those constraints placed upon you by the State of Ohio Nurse Practice Act. High School Diploma/GED and currently enrolled in a BSN program at Wright State University or Cedarville University and have completion of all junior level courses.
