Responsible for the managing of patient care/needs in the Hematology/Oncology (HO) Clinic. Provides nursing care in the outpatient setting based on assessment and under the direction of the physician and/or nurse practitioner. This care may include, but is not limited to: ordering of diagnostic tests/order, communication with patient and family as well as other disciplines related to the plan of care. Provides basic education to patients and parents. Interviews and assesses patients/family needs during telephone encounters and shares information with other members of the team in order to develop a plan of care utilizing the nursing process set forth by the Ohio Board of Nursing. Possesses the ability to adapt an education plan for parents and children based upon their cognitive levels, abilities, social environment and cultural belief system. May network with staff from other departments within the hospital, particularly the lab, radiology and pharmacy. Collaborates with assistive staff, nurse practitioners, physicians and manager to ensure quality care. Able to prioritize and review pertinent medical findings to the practitioner in a reasonable time frame defined by the practitioners. The ambulatory nurse serves as a liaison/resource to other staff in the clinic and works collaboratively with them to maintain communication. This position interacts with other department personnel to identify quality patient care issues. The HO clinic averages 4,500 plus visits per year. An Associate’s degree, current Ohio RN nursing license, current CPR certification, and basic computer skills required. A BSN, 1-2 years experience, pediatric experience, CPHON APHON biotherapy and chemotherapy provider course preferred.
