The Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) in the operating room serves as an expert clinical nurse practitioner who utilizes the Synergy Model for Patient Care, specialized knowledge, skill, research and competency acquired through advanced professional training to promote optimum care of patients and families within the pediatric population. This role requires advanced clinical knowledge and skills as well as the ability to assist nurses in the development of expert operating room practice. The CNS acts as a consultant to the patient/family, nursing staff, other employees and physicians and the community in the area of pediatric surgical care. The CNS inter-relates with all departments in the hospital as a voice for nursing practice where clinical expertise is required. The CNS has accountability and autonomy for promoting professional growth, nursing expertise and progressive practice, and improving patient outcomes within the operating room. ADN, BSN, or Diploma with certificate, RN licensure in State of Ohio CPR training, Operating room experience, COA - NP certification in State of Ohio with prescriptive authority,Communication skills, Customer Service Skills and Basic keyboarding skills required. Master’s degree, 3-5 years neonatal/pediatric experience, 3-5 years of operating room experience, and Hospital experience preferred.
