Reporting to the Management Director, Pathology and Laboratory Manager (Director), the Manager is responsible for organizing, directing and managing laboratory operations with general administrative oversight from the Director. The Manager has primary responsibilty for personnel issues, including hiring new staff, training, competency assessment and staff evaluations, and coordination of continuing education activities for the department. This position is responsible for ensuring that the laboratory facilities and equipment are appropriate for the provision of quality laboratory testing. The Manager will ensure that a safe working environment is provided for employees. Under the direction of the Director and Medical Director, he/she works closely with the Quality Manager to ensure that clinical operation is adhering to regulatory and accreditation compliance standards and that staff is continuously prepared for regulatory and accreditation reviews from agencies including The Joint Commission, CAP, California Department of Health and the FDA. In collaboration with the Medical Director and the Director, the Manager works closely with the Medical Staff to effectively integrate clinical requirements of the health care team and research institute into the service delivery plan for the lab. This role has 24/7 accountability for lab operations in collaboration with the Director.
Education: Bachelor's Degree in medical technology or science. Master’s degree, in life science or management is preferred, but not required.
License/Certification: CLS License for State of California required. MT(ASCP) certification preferred
Experience: Minimum of 5 years of laboratory experience with 2 years of management or supervisory experience in a high complexity laboratory is required.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Must be highly motivated and organized to achieve the goals and objectives of the lab.
Must demonstrate skills in managing multiple activities or functions simultaneously, ability to work independently, handle a high degree of responsibility and prioritize multiple, conflicting assignments.Familiarity and skill with computer software applications including LIS, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Access, and the Internet.
