The Institutional Giving Officer is responsible for managing robust portfolio of current funders and identifying specific grant opportunities for all programs of Children's Hospital & Research Center Oakland. Populates aggressive pipeline that includes potential funder, corresponding capital, program, research need, anticipated solicitation amount and deadline. Writes LOIs, proposals, cover letters, etc. Implements cultivation strategies for private, family, corporate, and community foundations. This position works closely with Children's Hospital Foundation's major gift team in articulating the case for support to grant making constituents.
Education: Bachelor's Degree
Experience: Minimum of three years experience in position(s) with Foundation and Corporate Funders prospect research, analysis and writing responsibilities required. Minimum of two years experience in development department of non-profit institution preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities: Outstanding organizational and time management skills and strong research abilities; deadline-driven, with a commitment to excellent customer service and the ability to independently drive projects with multiple stakeholders;Excellent grant writing skills; ability to write grammatically correct, clear, structured, articulate, and persuasive LOIs, proposals and cover letters; Ability to build effective, collaborative relationships internally with medical center staff, physicians and externally with foundation program officers. Ability to assess programs and identify those with a strong potential for funding. Ability to synthesize appropriate levels of information about a broad range of health disciplines and interdisciplinary areas and clearly, concisely and persuasively articulate information to funders;Ability to think strategically; Ability to maintain confidentiality on behalf of Foundation donors and colleagues; Understanding of major issues and trends in philanthropy. Knowledge of Raiser's Edge database and spreadsheet systems, grant fundraising, monitoring and reporting.
