Job Summary:
The Staff Research Associate II will develop and carry out research projects independently with guidance from PI and assistance from others (Postdoctoral Fellows and Lab Supervisor) in the lab when appropriate. Perform a variety of laboratory techniques including cloning, PCR, Westerns, cell culture, PAGE, protein purification and expression in mammalian as well as prokaryotic systems. Duties also include travel to off-site locations to participate in research studies that entail obtaining materials such as human sera, tears, tissue and administering non-laboratory aspects of research projects.

The technician will perform vaccine response ELISAs and antibody avidity experiments on human serum specimens. He/she will also develop a Luminex assay for vaccine response testing (pneumococcus, H. influenzae, and diptheria) and will perform Luminex assays on human serum. He/she will also perform nutritional testing on human blood samples and will assist in the data entry and analysis.

Position Requirements:
Minimum Education
: BA/BS with a major in an applicable natural science is plus eighteen months of experience in the kind of work to be performed, or an equivalent combination of education and experience, or Masters Degree with 6 months experience in applicable natural science while in school.
Knowledge/Skills: Incumbent will have amassed significant knowledge related to the research program and will evidence a sophisticated understanding of the theoretical principles related to the scientific field of interest. Performs a wide variety of routine laboratory procedures as described in "Primary Purpose" and highly adaptable to special and changing needs of research. Interest in international health. Prior experience with both ELISA and Luminex assay performance is essential. Prior Luminex assay development and knowledge of bacterial pathogens would be beneficial. Great attention to detail and ability to problem solve are required.
