The Psychology Intern, through an agreement with his/her training institution, comes to Children’s Hospital and Research Center at Oakland seeking to develop expertise and a broad range of skills as a child and family psychologist. Interns are exposed to a range of psychological, developmental, behavioral pediatrics and family systems issues in the context of a children’s health care system. The Psychology Internship training program provides a year of intensive training in a variety of specialized skills which may include assessment, infant, child, parent-child or family psychotherapy, crisis intervention, and/or pediatric psychology consultation-liaison at a level appropriate to the trainee’s skills and level of training, with rotation(s) to other site(s) within Children’s Hospital & Research Center at Oakland.
Education: PRE: Has completed clinical Practicum experiences. Is enrolled in a doctoral program in professional psychology which requires 1500 hours of Predoctoral Internship training. Has a formal Internship Agreement between CHRCO and trainee’s graduate program through the APPIC match.
License: Purpose of participation in training program is to obtain required hours for educational advancement and/or licensure.
Knowledge & Skills: Board of Psychology regulations, DSM-IV, Child Abuse Reporting laws, APA Ethical Principles for Psychologists. Ability to work under pressure and to respond effectively to crises. Good physical condition to meet the demands of an active position.
