Design phase:

  • Consult with researchers to analyze problems, recommend technology-based solutions, or determine computational strategies.
  • Develop new software applications or customize existing applications to meet specific scientific project needs.
  • Develop software or applications for scientific or technical use.
  • Create novel computational approaches and analytical tools as required by research goals.
  • Develop data models and databases.
  • Design and apply bioinformatics algorithms including unsupervised and supervised machine learning, dynamic programming, or graphic algorithms
  • Collaborate with software developers in the development and modification of commercial bioinformatics software.
  • Develop complex T-SQL queries for data-analysis and data extract utilizing knowledge of joins and understanding database landscape.
  • Design T-SQL query for statistical analysis and generation of report.
  • Develop various T-SQL stored procedures, views, and adding/changing tables for large data extraction, data load and transformations.
  • Use complex T-SQL query statements like sub queries, Union All, Inner/Left/Right Join, Group By, Case functions, PIVOT, CTE.

Implementation skills:

  • Demonstrates experience in understanding of EMR systems and data management tools.
  • Able to access and analyze data from  SQL Server and report development
  • Ability  in writing complex T-SQL code, including stored procedures, functions 
  • PIVOT and CTEs

 Experience with the following:

  • Query optimization and performance tuning for large dataset large scale data warehousing environment and ETL development
  • Utilizing Python and R
  • visualizing data in business intelligence tools such as Tableau, Business Objects or Hana Analytics
  • Proven analytical skills, including mining, evaluation, analysis, and visualization
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills on data filters, formula, VBAStatistical software: SAS
  • Presentation/data collection tools: Microsoft office suite, endnote


Additional Requirements:

  • Keep abreast of new biochemistries, instrumentation, or software by reading scientific literature and attending professional conferences.
  • HIPAA and IRB compliance
  • Literature review (PUBMED, MeSH, meta-analysis methods, etc)
  • Effective communication


  • MS/ PhD Large data science; MS Computer science/information science;
  • MS/PhD Epidemiology with course work or experience in computer science;
  • MBA with a medical background and a concentration in information systems.
