Maryhaven is a nonprofit, Long Island based agency committed to helping persons with special needs including intellectual disabilities, mental health issues, physical disabilities, and/or substance abuse/dependence issues to realize their full potential. The agency's purpose is to establish, maintain and operate progressive programs and services which are residential, educational, vocational, and rehabilitative in nature. The ideal goal is the attainment of normalization, in all aspects of life, for each individual we support. Maryhaven's Center Dorm is a home to individuals with intellectual disabilities.
Responsibilities will include:
Provides supervision for a number of multiply handicapped students, ages 5-21 in an educational setting. Participates in the delivery of educational services including academic, vocational, social, emotional and independent living skills instruction. Assists the teacher in implementation of daily activities. Works under the direction of the classroom teacher.
High School Diploma and AAS degree in a human service or related field required,
At least 1 year's experience with multiply handicapped population preferred
Valid NYS driver's license desired.
Proof of application for certification must be made to the NYSED by the conclusion of the probationary period.
