Job Details: This position is responsible for providing a combination of unit clerical duties and direct patient care duties as needed on the Patient Care Unit. The incumbent ensures that accurate and complete information is completed to facilitate coordination and communication between physician, unit staff, and ancillary departments. The incumbent performs clerical duties associated with supporting the Patient Care Unit and provides assigned direct patient care duties under the supervision of the registered nurse.

QUALIFICATIONS/KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES

  • Requires completion of Medical Assistant, Medical Secretary Classes, or equivalent experience of 2-3 years in a professional office setting.
  • Requires ability to learn and apply medical terminology within 3 months of hire. Prefer basic knowledge of medical terminology at point of hire.
  • Requires ability to apply the organization personnel policies and procedures.
  • Requires up-to-date knowledge of changes.
  • Requires excellent communication skills.
  • Requires constant mental alertness and the ability to withstand a high level of tension and stress.
  • Requires ability to maintain concentration when subjected to frequent and varied interruptions and variable noise levels.
  • Requires ability to exercise judgment and initiative in the resolution of problems encountered.
  • Requires ability to set priorities and manage a high workload within limited time for completion.
  • Requires knowledge of procedures; equipment, software and standards related to patient care activities.
  • Requires knowledge of principles of infection control.
  • Requires ability to remain calm in emergency situations.
  • Requires ability to perform physically demanding; repetitious movements.
  • Requires ability to read and perform basic math.
  • Requires ability to organize tasks and attend to details.
  • Requires ability to observe patients and report changes to RN.
  • Requires knowledge of principles of good personal hygiene and aseptic techniques.
  • Requires ability to maintain accurate charts and records.
  • Requires Certification as Nursing Assistant by state of Indiana in good standing or certification within 120 days of completion of CNA training (must be eligible to take first available exam).
  • CPR required within 30 days of employment
