Job Summary:   Cardiac SSU provides an exciting opportunity to work with world leading cardiac specialists in an innovative and groundbreaking program. Our Heart Center features a e 20-bed state of the art design to create a family centered friendly atmosphere. This unit provides a holistic approach, which encompasses care that starts with the pre-operative phase, and includes the immediate post-operative recovery through to discharge.  Patient population includes: open heart and thoracic surgeries, post cardiac intervention, and acute cardiac care management.


The primary responsibilities of this role are to support the development of our clinical staff, advancing competency from progressive care to critical care and open heart recovery levels. Along with serving as a clinical resource for staff, he/she will function as a practitioner, educator, consultant and evidence-based practice leader. As a member of the Cardiac SSU Leadership Team, it is the expectation that the Critical Care Development person exemplifies professional nursing practice, actively participate in performance improvement activities and serve on committees as requested.

Requirements: BSN required; Master's degree in nursing preferred. 5 or more years of relevant critical care/open heart recovery experience, 2 years clinical educator experience preferred.  Current American Heart Association Healthcare Provider BLS and ACLS required, trainer level certifications preferred.


Skills:  Excellent presentation skills. Proficient computer knowledge specific to Word, Excel and Power-point.  Ability to operate equipment: projectors, audiovisual equipment, cameras, other equipment used in instruction and patient care. Proficiency in the educational process of needs determination, design/development, delivery, assessment outcomes/QI, and documentation.
