Chief Compliance Officer

Job Summary:

The System Chief Compliance Officer reports directly to the Board of Directors of Central Maine Healthcare (CMH) with a dotted line to the Chief Executive Officer and is responsible for directing and managing all components of the CMH's Corporate Compliance program. The position is responsible for ensuring compliance with all Federal healthcare laws and regulations or guidelines including those applicable to the provider contracting process.


The Compliance Officer oversees the Compliance Hotline and compliance related internal investigations as well as runs the system-wide excluded persons screening process and the conflict of interest disclosure process. The individual has responsibility for elements of Corporate Responsibility monitoring and auditing, as well as internal auditing, activities. The Officer assists in the creation of policies and procedures, the oversight of compliance with HIPAA privacy and security regulations, training and education on compliance activities, and other projects as necessary.


The Officer is well versed healthcare compliance and understands relevant Federal and State laws and regulations. The individual is well versed in fair market value analysis and community need standards.


The Officer has good knowledge of hospital, long-term care, laboratory, and physician practice operations and is financially literate. The Officer is responsible for working closely with hospital, facility and system leaders, contract management coordinators, and the organizations outside counsel.


The position requires time spent at each of CMH's hospitals, practices, clinics, as well as various business offices and often will require travel between system office and these locations for meetings and/or presentations.

Regulatory Requirements:


Educational Requirements: At a minimum the qualified candidate should possess a Bachelor Degree. Graduate Degree in Business Administration, Health Care Management, Law or related fields preferred.


Additional Requirements: This is a highly strategic and facilitative role that requires a highly resourceful individual with strong emotional intelligence, self-motivation, excellent oral and written communication skills and strong project management and analytical skills.



Minimum 3-5 years of experience in health care compliance, physician contracting field, or in a related area. Must have good knowledge of federal and state laws and regulations regarding physician self- referral fraud and abuse and tax-exemption.
