Job Summary: This is a VAS position is an RN with advanced IV/Vascular access skills. Provides oversight, coordination, and clinical leadership for Vascular Access by demonstrating research-based practice. Demonstrate best practice in vascular access skills while providing patient care. The VAS is a member of the CMHC Vascular Access Specialty Team and serves as a leader house-wide in Vascular Access in accordance with hospital policies and procedures.
The VAS coordinates and directs patient care in the Vascular Access forum along with Coordinators on the clinical floor. Assesses, plans, implements and evaluates psychosocial, physical and general aspects of care needs of patients and families. Communicates with providers as needed about patients' condition, to assure prompt, timely patient care and interventions and participates in performance improvement activities responding to house wide needs. Vascular Access nursing staff coordinates scheduling and patient care assignments in a timely manner. VAS is available at any time during workday to place and or evaluate Vascular Access devices and determine their appropriate use. VAS is highly flexible with excellent critical thinking skills and can complete various job assignments in a timely manner as a team player.
Current Registered/Licensed RN
Licensure in State of Maine where applicable to practice.
Peripheral I.V. experience preferred
Current BCLS and ACLS.
Vascular Assess Board Certified Required within 2 years
Willingness to maintain 5 CEU's annually related to Vascular Access
Basic to Advanced computer knowledge.
Proficient in interpreting ECG.
Trained and educated in Sonography for Vascular Assses.
Ability to organize work independently.
Competency in the placement of peripheral catheters
Must demonstrate excellent communication and written skills.
No active disciplinary actions currently on applicant's employee record.
Must be willing to complete required training for Vascular Access position which may include being sent to training facility.
Must have an excellent work attendance record.
Demonstrates a willingness to work as a team member with other staff throughout the hospital.
High level skills in critical thinking and assessment related to vascular access device selection.
Flexible Schedule with the option to work 4 - 10 hour days or 4 - 9 Hour days
2PM-12:00am or 3pm-12am
