 Position Summary:
  • Under the supervision of the Rehab Director, the Staff Speech Language Pathologist provides professional services in diagnosing disorders and providing therapy for patients (peds to adults) who demonstrate disorders of communication and/or swallowing  referred by a Licensed Health care professional (LHCP). This includes evaluation of all assigned patients, the development of treatment plans, administration and implementation of the treatment program, and appropriate discharge planning.
 Essential Functions:
    • Conduct thorough chart review and screening for appropriateness of patient for SLP evaluation.
    • Perform initial evaluation including history of prior level of function, subjective information, objective tests and measures, assessment (including discharge disposition/home safety recommendations as appropriate), and establishment of plan of care and goals for future treatments.
    • Incorporate evidence based clinical decision making to select and utilize appropriate patient interventions in accordance with plan of care, and modify plan of care as appropriate based on patient progress/response to interventions.
    • Identify the safest, least restrictive diet for patients, educate patients and caregivers on diet modifications, provide instruction to perform accurate diet modifications, and collaborate with other disciplines to ensure patient's nutritional and hydrational needs are being met safely.
    • Maintain clear documentation records and use clinical judgment to determine when additional communication beyond standard documentation is required for safe and coordinated patient care.
    • Maintain patient safety, modesty, and privacy/confidentiality at all times.
    • Provide education to patients, caregivers and other staff members as appropriate.
    • Provide supervision to rehabilitation aides as needed for swallow study transfers.
    • Collaborate and communicate effectively with other team members including physicians, case managers, nurses, and other therapy staff, including participation in discharge planning in inpatient settings.
    • Screen for and make referrals to other disciplines when indicated, including mandatory reporting in cases of suspected abuse/neglect.
    • Meet licensure and continuing education requirements.
    • Other duties as assigned.

  • Demonstrate Standards of Behavior and adhere to the Code of Conduct in all aspects of job performance at all times.
  • Required:
    • Requires a Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology.
    • Current state licensure.
    • A certification of clinical competence by the American Speech and Hearing Association(ASHA) or actively pursuing clinical fellowship with ASHA.
    • BLS for Healthcare Providers.

  • Desired
    • Prefer two to three years of speech-language pathology experience.
