PHARMACY RESOURCE TECH

  • Position Summary
    • Under the direction of the Pharmacy Services Manager or the supervision of the Clinical Staff Pharmacist the Pharmacy Resource Technician performs all the duties and has all the responsibilities of a Pharmacy Technician I and II, as well as, specialized technical duties and responsibilities. She/he will also be responsible for special assignments and projects as assigned by the Pharmacy Services Manager related to the essential functions listed for this position. She/he at the direction of the Pharmacy Services Manager will be responsible for the maintenance (including updates, revisions and enhancements) of pharmacy technology (e.g. Acudose, Meds Manager) and training new pharmacy staff members on the use of pharmacy technology. She/he will help the Pharmacy Services Manager assess the competency of pharmacy staff on the use of pharmacy technology. She/he will be the Pharmacy Department’s liaison with the Medical Information System (MIS) department. She/he will assist the Pharmacy Services Manager in purchasing and contracting for purchase and distribution of pharmaceuticals. She/he may participate (under the direction of the Pharmacy Services Manager) at purchasing and contracting meetings for the acquisition, distribution and maintenance of pharmaceuticals and pharmaceutical supplies. She/he will serve as liaison with the Dartmouth Hitchcock Alliance contract manager for the purchase and acquisition of pharmaceuticals. She/he will maintain the pharmacy charge master and monitor pharmacy charges to insure corporate compliance.
  • Qualifications
    • Education: High School Graduate or Equivalent
    • Experience: Pharmacy Technician Hospital Experience for 1 year
    • License/Certification: State of New Hampshire registration required within 30 days of employment. Certified Pharmacy Technician certificate required within 1 yr of employment.
    • Computer literate (i.e. Microsoft Office, Excel) and knowledge of drug / medical terminology.
  • Essential Functions of the Job

    • Maintains pharmacy technology
    • Maintains competency and proficiency with all pharmacy technology
    • Acts as pharmacy liaison to hospital and pharmacy department resource for pharmacy technology issues
    • Train pharmacy (and ancillary staff as needed) on the use of pharmacy technology
    • Assist the Pharmacy Services Manager in assessing staff competency with pharmacy technology.
    • With the Pharmacy Services manager provides training and retraining for utilizing pharmacy technology to insure competency.
    • Problem solves and trouble shoots pharmacy technology issues independently or with the Pharmacy Services Manager and MIS staff as needed.
    • Monitors daily pharmacy charges for accuracy
    • Actively participates in QA projects related to pharmacy charges. Works directly with the Pharmacy Services Manager to insure corporate compliance with pharmacy charges
    • Acts as liaison with the Dartmouth Hitchcock Alliance purchasing and contracting manager to insure contract compliance and informs the Pharmacy Manager of purchasing and contracting opportunities by attending scheduled meetings or by electronic means
    • Develops and maintains forms, tools and procedures for floor stock and crash cart maintenance
    • Assists the Pharmacy Services Manager in orientation, training and education relative to this job description and actively participates in the implementation and presentation of such programs
    • Trouble shoots and problem solves issues related to pharmacy charges, pharmaceuticals and pharmaceutical supplies with the Pharmacy Services Manager
    • Participates in purchasing and contracting meetings and assists the Pharmacy Services Manager in training pharmacy staff on inventory control.
    • Develops and maintains documents for pharmacy use.
    • Actively works on special projects and committee assignments as assigned by the Pharmacy Services Manager
    • Assists the Pharmacy Services Manager with managing the pharmaceutical inventory by performing formulary maintenance and price updates in Meds Manager and AcuDose
    • Perform special projects and other duties as assigned.
