JOB SUMMARY: Process state reporting requirements of birth and deaths; analyze charts for completion, retrieval of charts and answer telephones.
MINIMUM EDUCATION REQUIRED: Associates degree in Health Information Technology or other technical college education or the equivalent in work experience and continuing education. Medical Terminology required or course must be taken within 8 months of hire date.
PREFERED EDUCATION: Associates degree in Health Information Technology.
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: At least two years of prior experience in a healthcare setting or experience with Health Information Services is desirable. Must be familiar with PCs and able to work with multiple technical systems, simultaneously.
OTHER SKILLS REQUIRED: Verbal and written aptitude for adequate communication with physicians, Health Information staff, other healthcare professionals, and the general public. Ability to understand and integrate Joint Commission Standards and other licensing criteria into daily processes. Must demonstrate the ability to work well with others and independently. Must present in a professional manner. Position requires close attention to details. Must currently be a notary public or be willing to become certified within 8 weeks of hire date.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: The Health Information Services Associate is responsible for timely and efficient processing of patient/health information including, but not limited to, customer service, chart prepping, scanning, indexing, deficiency analysis, retrieving/filing/posting/processing of reports and records, chart location, and assisting physicians with patient record completion. Individuals may be required to sit for long periods of time, bending and reaching frequently, stopping to grasp and obtain papers and files frequently during the day. Individuals will walk frequently (may include climbing flights of stairs) and stand to file and retrieve charts frequently. Pushing of carts weighing up to 100 pounds. Lifting up to 30 pounds occasionally and 5-20 pounds repeatedly throughout the day. This position entails extensive customer service and phone utilization, visual and auditory acuity, finger-wrist repetitive motion, and utilization of a computer/keyboard.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT: Office environment, well lighted, central air conditioning, central heat. High paced environment with high noise levels due to multiple phones and conversations.
