Job Details:

The work involves program and administrative responsibilities for the treatment activities of an interdisciplinary team of a Behavioral Health Unit at the Erie County Medical Center Corporation.  The incumbent directs and coordinates a total program tailored to the individual needs of patients.  Work is performed under the general supervision of the Behavioral Health Assistant Director of Nursing.  Supervision is exercised over lower level clinical staff.  Does related work as required.



Plans, coordinates and directs the day-to-day activities of the Behavioral Health Unit to ensure quality patient care;

Formulates and updates policies and procedures, goals and objectives, methods of practice and Quality Improvement Measures;

Develops and monitors fiscal budgets to ensure the delivery of quality patient care in a cost effective manner;

Participates in and supervises the development of individual client care plans;

Ensures proper assessment of problems and development of appropriate and effective solutions;

Hires, completes performance evaluations and administers disciplinary actions for clinical personnel;

Assigns team resources to accomplish goals;

Evaluates the outcome of interventions and programs;

Participates in various committees.


FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS: Thorough knowledge of the principles, procedures and techniques used in providing care to Behavioral Health patients; good knowledge of Federal, State, local, Joint Commission and other applicable agency standards as they relate to Behavioral Health; good knowledge of program planning and evaluation techniques; good knowledge of the principles and techniques of administrative and management practices and procedures; ability to prepare program goals, objectives, budgets, and staffing patterns; ability to manage and supervise personnel; ability to establish and maintain interdisciplinary relationships; ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; sound professional and independent judgment; dependability; initiative; resourcefulness; physically capable of performing the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.



Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with a Bachelor's Degree in Nursing, Health or Human Services or Administration and five (5) years of clinical nursing experience, two (2) years of which included the treatment of chemical dependency or psychiatric disorders and two (2) years of which included management experience.


NOTE: Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with a Master's Degree in Nursing or Administration may be substituted for one (1) year of the required non-specialized clinical nursing experience.


NOTE: Verifiable part-time and/or volunteer experience will be pro-rated toward meeting full-time experience requirements.
