Job Details:

The work involves the procuring grants from government agencies, corporation, foundations and other grant-making organizations and individuals to support programs and operations at the Erie County Medical Center Corporation.  The incumbent prepares proposals and submits applications to granting entities establishing the necessary controls to effectively utilize funding in compliance with grantor requirements.  Work is performed under the general supervision of the Chief Operating Officer or designee.  Supervision is not a function of this position.  Does related work as required.



Develops and coordinates grant-funded programs for ECMCC departments and affiliates;

Reviews literature dealing with funds available through grants from governmental agencies, corporations, private foundations and individuals to determine feasibility of developing programs to supplement local annual budget allocations;

Pursues new funding opportunities from foundations, governmental agencies, corporations and individual sources;

Discusses program requirements and sources of funds available with administrative personnel;

Confers with personnel affected by proposed program to develop program goals and objectives, outline how funds are to be used and explain procedures necessary to obtain funding;

Works with fiscal officer in preparing narrative justification for purchase of new equipment and other budgetary expenditures;

Submits proposals to officials for approval;

Meets with representatives of funding sources to work out final details of proposal;

Writes grant application, according to format required, and submits application to funding agency or foundation in accordance with grantors requirements and deadlines;

Directs and coordinates evaluation and monitoring of grant-funded programs or writes specifications for evaluation or monitoring of program by outside agency;

Assists department personnel in writing periodic reports to comply with grant requirements;

Develops and maintains a schedule for monitoring and tracking grant application status;

Maintains master files on grants, monitors paperwork connected with grant-funded programs and reviews and reports notices of grant awards and denials;

Attends required conferences, regional network meetings, workshops, etc, related to grant funded programs.


FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS: Thorough knowledge of policies, procedures and techniques involved in obtaining non-reimbursable funding; thorough knowledge of the objectives of ECMCC; ability to prepare written grant proposals, cover letters and reports; ability to conduct needs assessment, evaluation and research; ability to assist in the development and implementation of grant initiated programs; ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with staff, administrators, Board members and personnel of granting entities; ability to make formal presentations both orally and in writing; ability to read, write, understand and communicate in English sufficiently to perform the essential functions of the position; ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; ability to use Microsoft applications and database software; sound professional judgment; resourcefulness; initiative; tact; physically capable of performing the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.



A)   Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with a Master’s Degree and two (2) years of experience in raising funds, grant writing, grant procurement or coordination of a public or private grant program; or:

B)    Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with a Bachelor’s Degree and four (4) years of experience in raising funds, grant writing, grant procurement or coordination of a public or private grant program.


NOTE: Verifiable part-time and/or volunteer experience will be pro-rated toward meeting full-time experience requirements.
