Job Details:

The work involves performing work in the skilled carpentry trade, on a journeyman level, in the maintenance and repair of buildings, equipment and facilities.  Work is performed under the supervision of a higher level supervisory employee or department head that assigns and inspects work for conformance with procedures and standards.  Supervises and trains lower level maintenance workers and laborers assigned to assist in the performance of carpentry and related work.  Does related work as required.

 

TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES:

Constructs, repairs and maintains wooden and related structures such as furniture, equipment, partitions, doors, windows, hardware, floor coverings, ceilings, glass, roof covering, caulking, etc;

Operates power tools such as planer, sander, saws, drills, jointer, etc., and carpenter hand tools such as plane, chisel, rasp, hammer, saw, etc;

Plans and lays out work; estimates materials and supplies required; reads and interprets blueprints, specifications or written orders to determine nature or work require; requests material and supplies;

May perform related tasks and may assist other craftsmen on repair or installation projects.

 

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS: Good knowledge of the tools, terminology, procedures and equipment of the skilled carpentry maintenance and repair trades; ability to make a variety of skilled repairs and installations rapidly and accurately; ability to read and interpret plans, blue prints and specifications; ability to get along well with others; mechanical aptitude and manual dexterity; initiative and resourcefulness; industry and dependability; physically capable of performing the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Elementary education and three (3) years of experience working as an apprentice Maintenance Worker in the skilled carpentry trade.

 

NOTE: Verifiable part-time and/or volunteer experience will be pro-rated toward meeting full-time experience requirements.

OVERTIME IS A REQUIREMENT OF THIS POSITION
