Receives, inspects, stacks, assembles and distributes supplies within the SPD system of the County Medical Center; This position involves performance of light laboring tasks connected with the distribution and processing of supplies in a modern hospital complex. Work is of a routine nature requiring prolonged standing and frequent bending or stooping; Direct supervision is received from a higher ranking technical employee; Performs related work as required.
TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES: Stocks mechanical Nurse-servers with routine and special hospital supplies to be transported to patient care floors; Removes soiled materials from carts and transports such materials to decontamination unit; Sorts, washes and pre-sterilizes medical equipment and instruments; nventories and brings up to standard complement supply carts; Insures that copies of charge tickets are accounted for and that tickets are attached to all changeable items; Receives, inspects, sterilizes and assembles equipment, supplies and instruments according to prescribed procedures and techniques; Performs a variety of duties as assigned by SPD Dispatcher in providing safe and efficient transportation of patients and supply items within the hospital.
FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, & ABILITIES: Working knowledge of hospital supplies used for patient care; working knowledge of hospital functions; working knowledge of sterilization and decontamination techniques; working knowledge of common terminology used to describe hospital supplies; ability to stand for prolonged periods of time; ability to bend, stoop and perform light laboring tasks; ability to read; ability to communicate both orally and in writing; initiative; trustworthy; good physical health.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates must possess one of the following, Either; (a) Graduation from a standard senior high school or possession of an equivalency diploma; Or (b) Completion of two (2) years of" high school supplemented by one (1) year of satisfactory experience as an aide in a hospital, storeroom, clerk, warehouse man, or related field. NOTE: Verifiable part-time or volunteer experience will be pro-rated toward meeting full-time experience requirements.
