The work involves the processing of the resident assessment (MDS/Minimum Data Set) for the long-term care facility at the Erie County Medical Center Corporation. The incumbent assesses resident’s functional status in accordance with
TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES:
Assesses resident’s functional status;
Ensures timely and accurate submissions of MDS to the
Selects the correct Assessment Reference Date (ARD) and correct reasons for assessment that capture all resources to ensure appropriate payment by Medicare/Medicaid systems;
Communicates with insurance companies to ensure appropriate documentation and coverage is provided;
Participates in the care planning process;
Assists residents and families in understanding insurance coverage;
Participates in educational programs, staff meetings, training programs and Quality Improvement Initiative as assigned;
May perform direct-patient care in a Charge Nurse capacity.
FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS: Thorough knowledge of professional nursing techniques, principals, terminology and nursing care of the geriatric/disabled long term care resident; good knowledge of New York State Health Department and Joint Commission standards as they relate to long term care; good knowledge of Federal, State, local and other regulatory agency policies, rules, regulations and procedures as they relate to the assessment of long-term care residents; good knowledge of minimum data set requirements; good knowledge of MDS, RAI (Resident Assessment Instrument) and Assessment Reference Date (ARD) process, care planning and RUGS (Resource Utilization Groups) optimization; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships; ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; good interpersonal skills; initiative; resourcefulness; dependability; positive attitude toward the elderly and disabled; physically capable of performing the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
A) Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing and two (2) years of registered professional nursing experience in a long-term care facility, one (1) year of which included MDS processing; or:
B) Graduation from an accredited school of Professional Nursing and four (4) years of registered professional nursing experience in a long-term care facility, one (1) year of which included MDS processing; or:
C) An equivalent combination of training and experience as defined by the limits of (A) and (B).
Possession of a license and current registration to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse in
