The Forensic Emergency Services Clinician has primary responsibility for providing mental health services on-site at County jails. The services provided may include mental health evaluations, clinical monitoring of at risk individuals, facilitation of inpatient referrals, facilitation of discharge, and focused short term counseling. The Forensic Emergency Services Clinician coordinates with jail staff, jail health providers, the BHS emergency service, BHS psychiatrists, and other associated providers. When not engaged in direct forensic services, the forensic Emergency Services Clinician may provide consultation and education to jail staff, and may assist with coverage of the Hospital mental health emergency service. Education/Experience:
Master's degree in social work or current license as a registered professional nurse in NYS with three year's experience in psychiatric nursing.
Experience in forensic/jail setting strongly preferred.
Ability to conduct clinical patient interviews, including assessment of mental status.
Thorough knowledge of psychiatric diagnosis.
Familiarity with psychiatric medications.
Ability to communicate clearly in written and verbal forms, including clear and legible handwriting.
Ability to interact with various psychiatric and medical disciplines.
Ability to manage time effectively and to cope with multiple simultaneous demands.
Knowledge of insurance reimbursement issues and processes.
Ability to respond calmly in crisis situations.
High level perceptual and reasoning skill to allow for accurate assessment and determination
of proper dispositions.
Knowledge of the developmental needs of patients of all ages, and skills required to assess patients of all ages.
